Edinburgh North and Leith MP Deidre Brock is encouraging all expectant mums with a baby due on or after August 15 to make sure they register for the new Scottish Government baby box scheme.
They can sign up to receive the baby box at their next midwife's appointment.
The boxes are packed with around 40 useful items for a newborn including clothes, books, blankets, a bath towel, bib, thermometer and changing mat. The box itself can be used as a safe place for babies to sleep near their parents.
The baby box comes on top of new targeted support for early years from the SNP Government's Best Start Grant. New powers are being used to expand on Sure Start Maternity Grants and provide £600 additional support for low income families during their children's early years.
"The baby box is a lovely welcome to the world for all our wee ones. It will help tackle wealth inequalities, improve health and provide practical, useful support to families during those first few weeks and months.
"There was a great response to the baby boxes during the pilot scheme and I can't wait to see it rolled out to new parents in Edinburgh North and Leith – part of the Scottish Government's commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life.
"All mums-to-be with a baby due from August 15 onwards should make sure they're signed up and get their baby box delivered."
