Scotland Office spend on spin doctors quadrupled under Tories

SNP CALLS FOR TORIES TO PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH

Spending on spin doctors at the Scotland Office has quadrupled since 2010 when the Tories took over, up from £108,439 in 2010 to £426,223 last year according to figures released by the UK Government today.

SNP MP Deidre Brock, whose Parliamentary Question revealed the figures, said:

"While George Osborne is slashing public spending and telling everyone else in the country to swallow his austerity poison the Tory Government is busy building empires at public expense. The Scotland Office's massive increase in spin doctor spending comes at a time when its responsibilities are shrinking while everyone else's wages are staying the same, the wage bill at the Scotland Office is soaring.

"The Scottish Government already takes care of most of the governing in Scotland and is taking on more responsibility with the recent transfer of powers. That makes you wonder why the Scotland Office needs to spend so much money on spin doctors – what is it that the Scotland Office needs to persuade us about that they need to hire an army of spinners to make sure we believe?

"The Tory Government keeps telling everyone else to tighten their belts and accept austerity – it's about time it started practising what it preaches."
