Escalating situation in Syria

April 11, 2018

The use of chemical weapons is abhorrent and violates international law. The UK Government must work with international partners to clamp down on the development and use of chemical weapons but parliament must have a say in any change of the roles of UK forces in Syria.

I believe further military intervention would not provide the long term solution so desperately needed to end the war.

My colleague and SNP Defence Spokesperson, Stewart McDonald MP has written to the Prime Minister urging extreme caution and making it clear that the SNP will not support action that further escalates conflict and violence in Syria.

There must also be a debate and vote in Parliament should Theresa May decide to include British Service Personnel in further military action.

My SNP colleagues and I will continue to speak out about the situation in Syria, and we will do all we can to assist with efforts for bringing about peace and stability.
