The summer recess has given me welcome time to visit lots of places around the constituency - makes a change from being in London four days a week. One of these visits took me The Yard this week. What a smashing place - an outdoor and indoor adventure centre for disabled children and young people on Eyre Place Lane.
I had a look round with the Chief Executive Celine Sinclair (pictured with me as I precariously balance on a rope walk below)
The Yard has grown a lot since it started back in 1986, and offers facilities which aren't really available anywhere else in Edinburgh. It's run by an impressive team and really helps build confidence amongst children and young people with disabilities by encouraging free play in a safe environment - at a place where they don't feel different. It's also largely self funded, with some support from the council and the Scottish Government.
Now opening to the public on Sundays (after the 4th September). See website for more info: http://www.theyardscotland.org.uk/
